I have always been a cat person though.
99 XK8 w/ 111k miles for $3350
Needs throttle body, crank sensor, coil pack, and hydraulic lines for top.
Oh god what have I done to my wallet.
Reset the codes and let it go through its learning program. 20 miles later there was no problem. Convertible top is still broken, but the engine sings.
It should also be stated that I have an 89 944S2 in my backyard already.

s..so, you bought it? The work sounds doable. A gf's friend in highschool had a green one she would molest up n down the fingerlakes/ Skaneateles with the top down we had a blast...the top works, right?

The Finger Lakes are fucking BEAUTIFUL. Just one if the reasons the drive to the Glen is enjoyable. Going down 414 to Sampson tomorrow.

Congrats. You have taken a step into madness that I have thus far managed to avoid. I know that someday, I will no longer be able to put caution in front of action. Have fun!

It needs a couple trim pieces here and there that are worn. Some upholstery to be done. Exhaust/Intake, suspension, brakes, and all the good stuff later I'm sure.

is it bought? Also check those wheel bearings out good. Dealer cost to replace is $700. I can do one in an hour and have the $140 tool to screw them out of there if you need to borrow it in the future

Yeap s'why its so hard to leave the area. All the b roads surrounding the lakes are almost as good as the track. Sampson is a great camping spot too. Checkout two goats brewery and that cool volvo yard along the way while you're at it.

I always wanted an first-gen XK8/XKR. It's one of the most beautiful cars of the last 20 years, and your wallet may not be that bad off, as it is a future classic.

I think it might be cheaper to replace the entire hub. I manage a dealership so my parts rates are extremely low. I'm located in CA, you anywhere close?

The place in Geneva? I want to but probably don't have time. I live in Oswego on lake Ontario. I'm going down for NASCAR this weekend. Want to watch the race but don't want to deal with people. That's why the Sports car races are more fun to go to.

Unfortunately this example is not the XKR post update, so I'm not sure how well it will fare in future depreciation.

I'm insane. I've always wanted to buy a base XK with blown motor/trans and swap in an LS1/T56, strip it and auto-x with. It would be classy as fuck.

yeap the whole area certainly gets busy around that weekend, the Vintage GP is almost as crowded but that's my jam. Two Goats brewery and the volvo yard are technically in Burdett on the same stretch of 414 along East Seneca lake wine trail, much closer to Watkins Glen itself I'd say its worth it to take that way into town if'n you're at Sampson anyhow

We're going into town Thursday but we don't really have plans yet. I'll see if we'll have time to stop there. You going to the Vintage cup? I've gone to that race pretty much my entire life. I love the Glen. The Vintage Cup is amazing and seeing all those cars.. Just wow

Wow, that's cheap! Cheapest convertible XK8 in my country is $24,000 ('00).
Coil packs and crank sensors can go bad but how is the throttle body damaged? I know that they can can dirty and have jamming problems but is it really mechanically bad?

The top is hopefully not the pump itself, but just the lines. Not looking forward to paying for the pump. I intend to drive it for a bit and flip it later.

Throttle position sensor is bad, and it is not made to be replaced individually. I am going to try a hard reset of the computer and sensor to see if that helps it.

120k miles seems to be the problem point. They seem to skip a tooth before destroying your valves. Hopefully you will have some warning.

There are "how to" replace threads including pictures of how to redo the hydraulic lines on the Jagforums site. It involves taking apart the entire interior, seats, kick panels, the works. The failure is due to a design defect that was never fixed, though some enthusiasts on that site have also come up with a pressure relief system you could install that might cure it. Or, you could do what I did when it failed, and do the "manual latch conversion" (again, on the site) and plug up the lines that go to the latch, the top (after you refill the reservoir and assuming the motor isn't fried) will go up and down using the hydraulics, and you just have to use the supplied Allen wrench in the header to latch /unlatch. Costs about $26.00 (or less) for the block-off compression nut and fluid. If you are keeping the car, do or have the upper chain tensioner done. There often is no warning, and it will destroy the motor most of the time. I had mine done at a Jag specialist for about a grand. Good luck!
